Lanzarote is the most dramatic of the Canary Islands — volcanic moonscape, extraordinary natural parks, and a year-round mild climate that makes it the most reliable all-seasons family destination in the archipelago. The south coast at Playa Blanca has the best family resort infrastructure, and Princesa Yaiza is the standout property for families who need genuine sleeping separation.

The island is unique in the Canaries in having won Condé Nast Traveler's Best Family Hotel in Spain award for its flagship resort. That's a meaningful signal of genuine quality — and the family block configuration at Princesa Yaiza is one of the most clearly designed family setups of any hotel on this site.

Our top pick: Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort

Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort

Playa Blanca, South Lanzarote · 5-star · Voted Best Family Resort in Spain

Top family pick

The Princesa Yaiza has a dedicated family block — a physically separate section of the resort with its own pool, family restaurant, and outdoor snack bar, connected to the main hotel by an underground walkway lined with tropical fish tanks. This isn't a token gesture: it's a genuinely separate family zone that gives children their own world within the resort while keeping adults connected to the main hotel facilities. The Family Suites in this block give two complete bedrooms with full-size beds for children, plus a lounge with kitchenette and balcony.

What families who stayed in 2024–2025 say

"Another exceptional stay at our favourite Playa Blanca hotel. We stayed in the Family Suites — perfect for a growing family with two separate bedrooms, full-size beds for children, a spacious master suite and functional kitchenette. Despite being at full capacity the atmosphere was remarkably calm and quiet. Remains our favourite hotel in Playa Blanca."

"Stayed in the Kiko suite in D block. Great room — large, comfortable and practical for families. Some worn parts to the room but nothing too bad or hugely annoying and nothing took away from the holiday. Kids Club was brilliant with a highly energetic and friendly team. The hotel is large, characterful and comfortable. Pools are great, plenty of sunbeds, very clean. Don't listen to reviews about a long tunnel to D block — it takes two seconds."

"We loved our time at Princesa Yaiza. The staff were very friendly and the food was lovely. Kikoland was great for the kids — catered for all ages with lots of space. My kids loved the mini disco — the staff were really good with them. The location is fantastic, half way between the marina and the main shops."

Honest caveats: Lanzarote's pools are almost universally unheated — this is an island-wide commitment to sustainability and affects all resorts including Princesa Yaiza. In peak summer the water temperature is manageable; in shoulder season (October–April) some families find the pools too cold for comfortable swimming. Check water temperatures for your dates. Some reviews also note that restaurant dining starts at 7pm, which can be late for young children who've been swimming all day — ask about room service options if you're travelling with children under 5 who eat early. Some areas of the family block show wear.
Tip when booking: Request the B wing of the family block — this is the recommendation from repeat visitors for best location. If travelling with a baby or toddler, book the Royal Kiko Suite and use the baby concierge kit to avoid packing bulky items. Ask about pool heating status for your specific travel dates before confirming.

The Iberostar Lanzarote Park sits adjacent to the Princesa Yaiza and offers interconnecting suite configurations for families, with ground-floor rooms opening directly onto private terraces and pool access. Lanzarote with children: what to know

The island's unique volcanic landscape is a genuine family asset. Timanfaya National Park — where you can watch volcanic heat cook food above a lava field — is unmissable for children aged five and above. The Saturday market at Teguise, camel rides at Timanfaya, and the submarine adventure from Playa Blanca are all within easy reach. The island is compact: most south coast resorts can reach any attraction in under 45 minutes by car.
